34" Continuous Strand of Brazilian Shaman's Dendritic Tree Agate Chips Necklace

A Black Pyramid Vèvé Room Find

~!~

This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and only 8 photographs!

So please sit back and read the listing through.  If you have come this far, we are sure you will find  it was worth the wait.

It has now been just over twenty-two and a half years ago since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years!

The Voodoo Estate!

This type of call usually gets us excited as they usually lead to a treasure trove.  Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting and in we went.  If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with!  Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background.  The estate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion.

These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo and exorcism in the old mansion was enough for us to spend the night in a hotel and return in the morning to assess the estate.  The rest is history.

Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's.

We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics!  Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic home we have ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than unnerving.

There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the mansion, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.

This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so please check our other items!

We will, upon the new guardian's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each piece from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney.

Some Back Story

Found in what we have named "The Black Pyramid Vèvé Room."  This room was an interesting work of architecture.  Windowless and located just above the Main Ballroom in the center of the mansion, it was only accessible through a trapdoor and wrought iron spiral staircase from the storage room above it.  The floor was four feet below the Main Ballroom ceiling, well concealed by the baroque architecture.  The architect had concealed the room in the floor above by surrounding it with four guest suites, it was dead center in the mansion.

Painted black, with ebony flooring and paneling, the contents of the room consisted of seven, LiDiex Black Glass and Silver, charging pyramid boxes and their contents.

Measuring exactly twelve feet x twelve feet with a twelve foot ceiling, the room was well concealed by the architecture of the building.  But, it was stifling as there was no ventilation, the only air coming from the trap door above and that was not much.  Only a few of us went into this room to recover and inventory the contents and none of us could stay in there for more than a few minutes, it was, well, disorientating.

This was another room with no wiring for electrical power and on the floor were the remnants of previously used vèvé's that we assume were drawn with the chalky powder found in one of the pyramids.  The remaining six pyramids contained an interesting assortment of jewelry and mineral specimens that she kept inventoried in a separate journal concerning the ceremonies conducted in this room.

The pyramids themselves were graduated in size from 9" x 9" x 7" to 3' x 3' x 2.2', so this was a massive undertaking as most of these were too big, heavy and/or fragile to get out of there safely, full as they were.

Concerning the pieces from this room she writes, "I have used these pieces to awaken psychic perception and mystical awareness and have found them to strengthen my memory and as an aid in dreaming.  I continue to receive insight and inspiration from them."

"many of the ones awakened have sought refuge here, most being complacent in their worlds.  They will come if called to a blood match."

In these journals she makes some fantastic claims concerning these items and real or imagined, we understand why she was as feared and respected as she was.

We can attest that pieces from this room have shown to possess some remarkable attributes or association with what might be called paranormal and dream activity.

Some of those who have had access to these items and/or their photographs have been quoted as feeling ill or nauseous, often followed by a feeling of warmth, well being, happiness and power.  In addition there are numerous reports from those who claim to have perceived, felt, saw, sensed, etc., at the very least movement in and/or around the stones and setting, many times directly related to them, but you be the judge.

The Strands

Strands of gemstone chips were generally found lining the bottom of her spell boxes followed by a layer of gems.  Her journals tell us "nothing is to waste at the cuttings" and that these were strung for her own use.

~!~

Brazilian Shaman's Dendritic Tree Agate

Her journals go on to tell us these are the chip remnants from cuttings of hand picked specimen of dendritic tree agate specimen she brought back from her 1962 Brazilian Shaman artifact hunt.

Although she does not name them in her notes she solicited a handful of holy men, healers, sorcerers and seers to act as guides to her party and relinquish some of their precious finds, usually in trade for guns.

She writes of  these strands being cut from hand picked specimen which she had induced with spells or "charged" as she called her ritual inducements.  She also writes of this agate as having a wide range of metaphysical properties.

She tells us, "This agate generates a strong, positive vibration that intensifies with use.  It has become a useful aid in the healing of wounds and of use in slowing the aging process.  I have successfully used it to mystically diagnose ailments while it has enhanced each spiritual journey it has accompanied.  This is an intuitive and energizing stone that assists focus, attracts love and stabilizes relationships."

Real or imagined, we understand why she and her associates were as feared and respected as they were.

The polished chips display milky white color with green fern-like growths of dendrites.

Our own research has revealed Dendritic Quartz as an interesting and beautiful stone which appears to be included with fossilized plants, trees or ferns.

Tree Agate: The Ultimate Guide to Meaning, Properties, Uses
by Gemstonist, a team of professional gemstone enthusiasts for the purpose of easy information dissemination to their fellow customers all around the world.

Tree Agate

The Dendritic Agate, also commonly known as Tree Agate, is a mineral of the quartz family and is known for its tree-shaped dendrites.  The fact that these gemstones do not consist of banded cryptocrystalline silica (chalcedony) means they are not technically agate based on the scientific definition.  They are popularly used as placements in amulets and other forms of jewelry and are used to promote self-reflection, health, and connection with nature.  The rarer, green-colored forms of Tree Agates are also seen as symbols of luck.

To get the best benefit of tree agate, it is usually a good idea to wear it.  The tree agate beads for necklace and bracelet making is the most popular choice.

Meaning

Dendritic Agates get their name from the Greek word “Dendron” which means “tree” and originally obtained their name from a Greek philosopher who discovered it over 2,000 years ago in third century B.C. along the Achates River, modernly known as Dirillo River.  The cryptocrystalline patterns that are present in the Tree Agate resemble that of sprawling tree branches.  These agates are also associated with good fortune as it relates to harvest and commerce.  White agates are also seen as symbols of innocence and purity.

Ancient Greeks also believed this stone to be useful in culling favor with their Gods and were often used as offerings or garden decorations to increase the production of plant life and foliage.  Ancient cultures in Egypt and India also used Tree Agates and other gemstones to design ornaments and religious pieces such as bowls, urns, and ornamental carvings.  Due to these stones being found in multiple locations around the globe, it goes by a variety of names depending on the region including ‘Mocha Stone,’ ‘Mosquito Stone,’ ‘Stone of Plentitude,’ and ‘Gratitude Stone.’

Properties

Tree Agates are typically white, grey, or colorless in appearance with a waxy luster, though there are also rarer forms that have a green hue with white dendrites.  The typical appearances of the dendrites are brown or black in color and are comprised of iron or manganese.

The dendrites can sometimes contain traces of red or brown due to the presence of certain iron ions.  They can be either opaque or translucent, with translucent stones being the most sought after.  Unlike typical agates, Tree Agates are not banded, meaning they are devoid of parallel lines created by the siliceous matter that filled the empty spaces left over from molten material.

Since the Tree Agate is not banded, the dendritic patterns themselves can be tricky to retain when cutting the agate itself.  This is due to the dendrites being difficult to measure in terms of depth and because the dendrites themselves are asymmetrical.  The hardness of the gemstone varies from 6.5 to 7.0 on the Mohs scale.  Gemstones that have a Mohs value of less than 7 are at a higher risk of being damaged, meaning it should be treated with care when being used for jewelry and while being worn.

The refractive index ranges from 1.544 to 1.553, giving it similar refractive properties to other gemstones such as Citrine, Rose Quartz, and Amethyst.  The specific gravity is 2.60 to 2.65.  Tree Agates are commonly mistaken for Moss Agates but can be differentiated by the different mineral traces that comprise the dendrites.  The stone itself does not contain cleavage, which differentiates it from other, harder, stones.

Metaphysical Properties

In countries such as India, Tree Agates are considered to be a source of inner peace and are used for meditation and spiritual prayer.  When used in meditation, it promote a sense of calm both physically and spiritually. They are also thought to broaden or enhance one’s connection to nature and are often associated with healing and restoration.  When placed in a yard or near your home, they can also be used to draw animals and wildlife.

Agates themselves promote a sense of stability and are useful in providing clarity and a sense of control over one’s life and can be helpful when making difficult or complicated decisions.  These stones are known for their low intensity and slower frequency vibrations.

Tree Agates can also be useful in reconciling trauma and shock by treating imbalances in the nervous system.  They produce water balances in the body to help the flow of capillaries and veins within the circulatory system.  Physical effects caused by stress such as back pain or headaches can are also treated by the positive energy produced when holding the stone close to the affected areas.  By holding the stone close to your heart, you can relieve the effects of emotional imbalances in the heart and even calm the effects created during sleep that cause sleepwalking.

The astrological sign most connected to Tree Agates is Taurus (April 20 – May 20) but is also known to be influenced by the Virgo (August 23 – September 22) and Gemini (May 21 – June 20) constellations and are associated with the planets Mercury and Earth.  The primary chakra is the heart chakra, with the second being that of the crown chakra with an associated element of Air.  Associations with the angelic realm depend on one’s date of birth and the color of the stone they keep as well.

It can be used for individuals who feel lost in their inter-personal or spiritual lives as they can be beneficial in creating clarity and awareness.  The stone’s affiliation with luck, fortune, and prosperity makes the stone an excellent good luck charm.  Cold or chilled stones can also be helpful in relieving fever or migraines when placed against the forehead or temple.  Placing the stone upon the abdomen helps with the digestive system.

Keep in mind that gemstones or agates should not be used as an alternative to medical evaluations performed by a doctor.  Tree Agates should be considered a supplement or enhancement to health and spiritual well-being and should not be relied upon alone to treat any current or pre-existing conditions.

Tree Agate in Jewelry Uses

Tree Agates are commonly used as placements in bracelets, pendants, or amulets and can also be made into beads.  They are good placements for any jewelry design you can think of, even with rings.  The stone’s lack of cleavage allows it to be more resistant to everyday wear and tear.  Wearing the stone as a pendant or amulet is helpful during meditation and therapy.  The increased popularity of Tree Agates and dendritic gemstones also makes it a popular option for men’s jewelry designs.

When contained in a bowl or container, Tree Agates can also be decoratively used in an office or work environment to promote a more peaceful and tranquil environment.  When made into beads, the stones are also great for stringing together to make bracelets.  Most Tree Agates are plain-cut and polished en cabochon, meaning they are polished and not faceted with a rounded face and flat back. This can vary depending on whether the stone is opaque or translucent.

Where does Tree Agate Originate?

There are many places in which Tree Agates can be found including Brazil, India, Madagascar, The United States, and Kazakhstan.  As with other types of agates, Tree Agates are found as nodules contained within volcanic rocks.  They can also sometimes be found in some porous forms of metamorphic rocks. In India.  Tree Agates are often referred to as ‘Mocha Stone,’ a reference to the historical Harbor of Mocha which used to be the primary port of delivery for stones mined in India.  These can be found in almost any area high in chalcedony and quartz formations.

How to use Tree Agate

Like many gemstones, Tree Agate can be worked in a variety of different ways.  It is most commonly used as a placement for amulets and pendants worn around the neck both in daily life and during meditative practices.  Beads manufactured from Tree Agates can also be used with twine or other strings to create a bracelet or necklace that can be worn on the wrists or neck.

In addition to wearing Tree Agates, one can still feel the benefits and healing properties by simply carrying with them on their person or keeping nearby such as on a desk or nightstand and still benefit from the positive healing properties.  Placing the stone next to a photograph or portrait to reestablish lost connections with family and loved ones.

How to Cleanse Tree Agate

When caring for and cleaning Tree Agates, it is important to remember to avoid using strong cleaning chemicals or corrosive agents.  In general, all you need is a soft brush with warm water and soap.  Most gemstone cleaning kits will have all the materials and tools that will be needed to clean the stone and can be purchased online.  After cleaning, it is important to dry and remove excess moisture using a cloth in order to avoid the development of rust or interactions between the stone and its environment. Stones should also be kept from exposure to extreme heat.

After cleaning, keep the gemstones separate from other stones to avoid scratching or damage, this is due to the Mohs scale only being 6.5 to 7.0. Gemstones under 7.0 on the Mohs scale are generally considered at risk for scratches and damage when in contact with other stones and minerals. To cleanse, charge, or relieve any negative spiritual energy contained within a Tree Agate, the stone should be smudged with smoke from cedar or pine.

What to Combine with Tree Agate

When used in Feng Shui, Tree Agates can be used decoratively to produce energies of intelligence and creativity.  The metal energies produced by the dendritic contents are most effective when placed in the North or Northwest area of a home or dwelling.  Place Tree Agates in combination with other green gemstones or crystals in a kitchen or dining area to promote appetite and health.

Unless the Tree Agate is more of a green hue rather than white, they can be paired well with green or other earthy colors.  Agates that are greener in color can conversely be matched with white or silver gems and stones for a similar effect.  For Tree Agates being used to fashion jewelry, complementary colors such as purple or red can establish vibrant contrasts.  The similarities in energy, color, and pattern also make Moss Agates a great accompanying stone.  Other crystals that are often associated with Tree Agates are Jade and Rutilated Quartz.

Flame Agates can be used in conjunction with Tree Agates to produce beneficial healing effects on the physical body and to help align the vertebra when treating certain skeletal disorders.  Phenacite or Obsidian can be combined to amplify the effects of motivation and creativity.  When combined with Picasso Stone or Malachite, they can also be used to more effectively displace fears and anxieties.

Final Words

Whether it is at work as jewelry or placed in your home, Tree Agates are wonderful and beautiful stones that promote health and balance as well as establish a stronger communication with nature.  They are fairly commonplace and can be easily purchased online or found around the world where there is an abundance of quartz and silica deposits created by volcanic activity.  They make great meditation and therapy stones due to their calming, low-frequency vibrations.  Tree Agates also make a great gift to friends, family, or significant others as they are readily available and treasured by many gemstone enthusiasts.

Be sure to remember that the therapeutic and metaphysical properties of Tree Agates and gemstones in general are not recommended to be an alternative treatment for pre-existing or current medical conditions.  It is important to consult your physician or medical professional to identify health issues.  Tree Agates and gemstones should be used as a supplement or enhancement for general health and well-being.

Final Commentary

Concerning these lots are some of the following excerpts from the written statement of one of the principals; "When we first entered this room we used pocket led flashlights, commonly known as tactical lights, this room lit up like a light show as we directed the beams, the three of us said "did you see that?"  Among other things."

"When we ran 2000 watts of light down there, the lights shut down, period.  They just would not work in the room.  We checked the generators and the lights worked fine out of that room, but in it, no go.  Regular, battery operated flashlights went dead in there too, fresh batteries went dead in a second."

To date, Energizer has not responded.

Little more thought was given this until one of us more or less became the caretaker of this lot, more because he was the only one able to get to the warehouse alcove where the balance of this estate is kept due to the way we had packed the volume of merchandise that came into the warehouse over the ensuing years.  Although the photographer is no longer commenting on his use of a directed, high intensity led and ultra-violet light in taking some of the photographs, the staff member who retrieved many of these items from "the hole", the warehouse alcove where the balance of the items from this estate were being stored, offers some insight as to what has transpired.

"It was typical to be back there and have the power go out, but this can easily be attributed to our weather conditions and sorry excuse for a power company, but I had taken one of my pocket tac-lights with me and the first time I used it back there was, well, nothing short of phenomenal and overwhelming.  This is not a joke, they like the light!"

We have been contacted and visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed. Among the buyers have been known psychics and practitioners.  More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated "this is a woman of power!"  Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts and other unexplained phenomenon.

Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price!

This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate.  The majority of this estate is now gone. Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again.  We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there.

The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public.

Nice addition to any collection, altar, wardrobe or decor, displays really well.
