8.5" Small Pears Sanchez, Peyote Shaman's Dog Tooth Amethyst Dream Sphere

A West Wing Dream Suite Find

~ ~ ~
This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 13 photographs!  So please sit back and read the write-up through.
If you have come this far we feel you will find it was worth the wait.

It has now been just over twenty-three years ago since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years!

The Voodoo Estate!
This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove.  Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting and in we went.  If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with!  Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background.

The estate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion.  These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo and exorcism in the old mansion did cause some uneasy feelings so we decided to spend the night in a hotel and return in the morning to assess the estate.  The rest is history.

Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Voodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's.  We were somewhat unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics!  Although we had to admit this was unlike any Catholic home we had ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than disturbing.

There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the mansion, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.

This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other items.

We will, upon the new guardian's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each lot from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney.

Some Back Story

This magnificent Chevron or Dog Tooth Amethyst sphere was recovered from a round table in what they referred to as the West Wing Dream Suite of this mansion.

It had been a birthday gift to her from her long-time friend and associate "The Peyote Shaman" whom  she also names as, "Small Pears Sanchez" in 1950.

The sphere spent the first two years in their Main Séance and Reading Room and had been moved to the West Wing Dream Suite in an effort to contact and locate it's maker through scrying and dream meditations.  The suite was also decorated with the sixteen dream catchers which her journaled inventory tells us fifteen of those dream catchers were also gifts from Small Pears and the sixteenth, a well worn dream catcher said to be the one sent back to her from Guerrero, Mexico in 1952 from Small Pears compound with the message, "Small Pears is Missing."

From her descriptive journal entries we find two of her associates sent into Mexico with instructions to pay a visit to, The Peyote Shaman whom  she  names as, "Small Pears Sanchez."

She notes of Small Pears as being an opium trader and gun runner throughout the Sierra Madre, that she lost contact with, and with the delivery of that dream catcher and a few other artifacts from his known residence, presumed dead in 1952.

Small Pears was also a source of regional amethyst crystals that she writes of, "its energies are protective of evil, well suited in healing's, cross scrying and inducing dreams of prophecy."

The Sphere

Examination reveals a solid Chevron, or Dog Tooth Amethyst sphere that has been ground and polished from a single piece of stone.   Her journals tell us Small Pears was known to craft amethyst spheres and other carvings while heavily under the influence of his custom concoction of Peyote Tea.

The sphere is of fine grind and polish.  It measures approximately 8.5" in diameter and weighs 38 pounds.

Some of her journal entries concerning this source of amethyst read, "This is a powerful source of grounded energies that is highly protective and will assist in spiritual growth."

"It's unique pattern is responsible for amplifying the unique calming energy it emits."

"Placing it in the west wing created a soothing atmosphere of calm where it emits a constant source of protective, positive energy."

"Gaze upon it.  Feel it stimulate the third eye chakra.  You will find foresight greatly enhanced."

"It is protective, cleansing and well grounded.  It purifies all auras dispelling negative energies to the winds as sub atomic matter."

"Hands on it while gazing will deepen your focus, allowing access to other realms."

The Stand

The stand this sphere was found on was attached to the small round cafe table which had a matching chair.  They were very old and sold the first weekend of the live, on-site sale.  We believe Uncle Waddy had already taken it into his care where it has remained packed until last November, unpacked for this photo session.

Although the glass stand is original to the estate, it's marriage to this sphere took place for this photo session, and it is included with the sphere.

Her inventory lists six of these glass stands as 1974 purchases from a shop they frequented, The Barefoot Mailman.

This one was fund and recovered from a storage closet that serviced the Main Library of this estate.  Although there are no journal or inventory mentions of this lot prior to coming to this estate, she does tell us she ands her associates frequented this local shop named The Barefoot Mailman.  The name of the store was a homage to South Florida's "barefoot mailmen."  Between 1885 and 1892, when no roads existed between Palm Beach and Miami, they delivered mail on foot, along a 68 mile route.  Described as "Spencers on steroids," there is a web and Facebook page dedicated to them.

It is certainly a nicely aged vintage amethyst sphere with an extraordinary provenance that is fairly well depicted in the photographs below.

We have been contacted and visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed.  Among these buyers have been well known psychics and practitioners.  More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated, "this is a woman of power!"

Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price!

This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate.  The majority of this estate is now gone.  Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again.  We made the decision to do this as we had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there had been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were being kept that many of our employees refused to go in there.

The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining lots that will ever be offered to the public.

Nice addition to any collection, altar, wardrobe or decor, displays really well.

Really doesn't get any better than this.

There are 13 photographs below to tell the balance of this tale,
