Boudoir Sex Magic, Little Blue Devil Love Spell Mala Bracelet

A Boudoir Guest House Find

~!~

It has now been just over twenty-two and a half years ago since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years!

The Voodoo Estate!

This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove.  Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting and in we went.  If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with!  Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background.  The estate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion.  These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo and exorcism in the old mansion was enough for us to spend the night in a hotel and return in the morning to assess the estate.  The rest is history!

Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's.  We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics!  Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic home we have ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than unnerving.

There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the mansion, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.

This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other listings!

We will, upon the new guardian's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each piece from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney.

Some Back Story

This is one of fourteen bracelets found on a commercial bracelet display on a bureau in the walk in closet of her, "Main Boudoir Guest House."  This cottage was one location where she would entertain intimate overnight guests, and quite a few carnelian pieces were found here.  Her journals tell us the bracelet was custom made for her own use (along with a male guest) and that it is one of many she had made with alleged metaphysical properties, that she had personally, "spell enhanced."  Made under her supervision using stones and/or metals of a particular source to enhance their powers.

The Silver

More often than not, her metal of choice was silver as she notes, "Silver is the mirror of the soul related to the moon energies.  It strengthens connections of the astral and physical bodies.  A metal unmatched in its psychic energies and healing abilities, I have used it as a spell medium, to heal the speech impaired and to help public speakers achieve eloquence.  Induced into the drink, it has expelled the toxins that caused headaches, arthritis, intestinal and blood disorders.  More importantly it attracts, enhances and stores energies of gemstones, driving out negative energies the stone may have absorbed."

She tells us of the two sources of silver chosen for this bracelet;

Los Angeles Indonesian Sterling Silver

Her journals and inventory tell us the sterling silver straight bar toggle clasp with chains, and ten assorted beads and spacers used in this bracelet were part of the large quantity of silver attributed as being purchased from an unnamed, Indonesian/American, practitioner, follower, of Los Angeles in 1970, through 1977.

A Los Angeles Indonesian, craftswoman with four silversmiths in her employ, she also had family connections in Indonesia who acted as her buyers.

The Little Blue Devil Charm

There are three entries in her inventories, dated 1955, 1974 and 1980 that mention "Little Sterling Silver Blue Devils" which were purchased new from manufacturer's at trade shows, in New York (1955) and Miami (1974 and 1980).  Coinciding with this, we have identified each of these charms, which she purchased in quantity.  Each is a standard manufactured item that is still encountered on the secondary market in such quantity to allay the claims of certain current day sellers who make claim to their being handmade by them or their company.  Although some have  successfully copied them, they are not their original designs.

That aside, we find no mention of any member of her household, or those associated with this estate as being associated with Duke Universality or being sports fans.

The 1955 entry contains this Irving Berlin quote;

I've seen many different pictures
Of the devil down below
And he doesn't stand a show
With a certain devil I know
Let me introduce you to him
You'll be happy when I do
He's a devil dressed in blue
And a soldier through and through
    -- Irving Berlin, 1917

She does not however comment on this.  Although she does not attribute these charms, to this entry, she does mention a "Jon de LaPerouse" as a long time friend and associate.  He had served with Chasseurs Alpins the French Legion, and African mercenaries.  She does attribute him as an occult sex-magic practitioner and confirms his being a Zuvembie leader in the 1920's.

The charm is assuredly one of the 1980 charms mentioned.  It is nicely detailed and measures approximately 13/16" x 5/8" x 5/16".

Unmarked, all test as .925 Sterling Silver Standard.

Brazilian Shaman's Carnelian Agate

Her journals and inventory tell us the nine, 14.2875 mm round carnelian beads she chose for this bracelet, as being part of the lot ground for her by an unnamed Mexican, practitioner, follower, lapidary in 1964, from some of the many mineral specimen she attributes as, “Shaman finds” she brought back from her 1962 Brazilian Shaman artifact hunt.

Although she does not name them in her notes she solicited a handful of Brazilian holy men, healers, sorcerers and seers to act as guides to her party, and relinquish some of their precious finds usually in trade for guns.

She does write of their sources of this mineral as being highly regarded by these Shaman for their use as a dream and fertility aid.  She also writes, "this source of stone is in tune with the energies of the Earth.  I have found its stimulating energies quite useful in influencing the reproductive organs to become fertile.  They have shown to have a clearing effect, dispelling negative energies as it replaces them with positive ones, necessary for those with difficulty in reaching a state of sexual ecstasy"

Her notes specifically mention her use of this stone in her "boudoir" and “fertility” jewelry, as being used for it's, "extreme grounding power which allows present time focus, useful for focusing on issues at hand."  One such entry reads, "it is singly charged to seek out and commit to memory the erogenous areas, worn on the fingertip as right hand work it has never failed to delight."

There are other entries pertaining to this subject that are far to risqué to disclose here, but when one considers her age at the time of these entries, this is some pretty lively erotica.  Some of her other journal entries concerning this source of carnelian agate read, "a curious and creative emotional sexual energy takes place within all five senses when worn.  This allows appreciation for one's body and sexuality with friends or lovers without guilt."
"It is well used as an instrument in maintaining lower abdominal health, treating impotence, cramping and infertility."

"These are ancient energies, well suited to the ceremonies of Isis and Thet when used with Ankhami flower water, it will grant protection from harm in the afterlife."

Real or imagined, we understand why she was as feared and respected as she was.

Some Interesting Historical Facts Concerning Carnelian

Carnelian is a reddish-brown mineral which is commonly used as a semi-precious gemstone.  The word carnelian is derived from the Latin word caro, carnis meaning flesgemstone carnelianh, in reference to the flesh color sometimes exhibited.  This variety of agate and chalcedony was said to have the power to drive away evil and bring good luck.

In ancient Rome, Carnelian was used by orators to give them courage to speak boldly and well.  The belief that it would protect against the envious, and would assure the gratification of the desires of its wearer originate in ancient Greece.  Carnelian jewelry, decorative art, and religious artifacts were recovered from Bronze Age Minoan layers at Knossos on Crete.

It is a Holy Stone in the Islamic world due to the fact that Muhammad wore a carnelian signet ring.  Carnelian was also used in ancient Roman for signet rings.  Carnelian of a dark color was thought to provide protection against incantations and sorcery, during the middle ages, and was believed to sharpen the wits, and give courage during the 18th. and 19th. century Europe and the Americas.

It was used for Assyrian cylinder seals, Egyptian and Phoenician scarabs, and early Greek and Etruscan gems.  The Hebrew odem, the first stone in the High Priest's breastplate, is thought to have been carnelian.

Back to the Bracelet

The beads are of fine grind and polish displaying white, yellow, orange, to red orange color.

All of these have been hand knotted, and strung together with black yak sinew to form this mala bracelet measuring approximately 7 7/8" in overall length.

 The bracelet weighs 41.3 grams.

She writes of the acquisition of a large quantity of this sinew from a, "Chinese healer and talisman maker known for and sought for his works," purchased at the Namche Bazaar of Nepal in 1928.

It is certainly an unusual vintage mala bracelet with an extraordinary provenance, that is much nicer then the photographs have been able to depict.

We have been contacted and visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed.  Among the buyers have been known psychics and practitioners.  More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated "this is a woman of power!"  Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts and other unexplained phenomenon.

Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price!

This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate.  The majority of this estate is now gone.  Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again.  We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there.

The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public.

Nice addition to any collection, altar, wardrobe or decor, displays really well.

Really doesn't get any better than this.

There are 6 photographs, so please give them time to load, and enjoy the listing.
