Gypsy Felon Fortune Teller's 1989 BRINN'S October Calendar Clown Halloween Witch

"Is She Haunted?"

*an Uncle Waddy edited Listing

~!~

This is one the thirty-two dolls taken from the storage room of the store-front reading rooms of a Dania Beach, Florida Felon, Gypsy Fortune Teller who had been arrested, and evicted from her shop back in 2013.  The owner of the building kept her things in storage for over a year, notified her, and posted an ad of abandonment, before calling us in to auction her belongings off.

It was not a successful auction.  It drew a very small crowd with few bidders.  Our own Uncle Waddy was the auctioneer and he wound up buying anything he felt was of interest.  We resold a few pieces but most went into storage or his own collection of curiosities that he used as display/conversation pieces.  The dolls have been stored in a climate controlled warehouse for ten years and were only unpacked because we moved the stuff out to expand the cafe and catering kitchens.

And so, we finally began the photo sessions of these dolls over a year ago and are just getting to the write-ups now!

We thought it odd that these dolls were found boxed and not displayed, although they certainly did not fit the decor theme of her rooms.  Some of the paperwork in the doll boxes led us to an Emerald Hills (Hollywood, Florida) name and address which although was no longer occupied by the woman named on the documents, a neighbor seemed to recall the woman had been bilked by a Psychic operating a few blocks away on Griffin Rd.

Further investigation revealed she had sold her home, moved in with her daughter and passed away in 2010.

I also thought it odd that more information concerning this "Dania Beach, Florida Felon, Gypsy Fortune Teller" had been edited out of the original listings, but no one involved in the editing had any recall of editing it out?  Although it has been over ten years I am inclined to believe it was Uncle Waddy who edited it out as I found out he knew some of these Romani women who shared the same identities who are part of a much larger criminal enterprise family.  It figures.

*"Yes, it was me that redacted identifying information pertaining to this clan.  I did know them.  Hadn't had any contact with them for three years prior to the auction."

So I went into the archived drafts, asked questions and accessed public records and this is what I found.

S. Florida fortune teller accused of $838K fraud

(Broward Sheriff's Office )
July 22, 2013 By Heather Carney, Sun Sentinel

POMPANO BEACH — A South Florida fortune teller was arrested Saturday in Pompano Beach on an out-of-state felony warrant for allegedly defrauding a California woman.

Peaches Miller, also known as Shanna Young, 33, was arrested by the Broward Sheriff's Office and charged with grand theft and extortion of property.

The Broward Sheriff's Office was unavailable to comment on the arrest of Miller, who was held without bond in the Paul Rein Detention Facility, Sunday evening.

Bob Nygaard, a Boca Raton-based private investigator hired by Miller's client, said in an email that Miller conned a California woman into believing that the victim and her family were being plagued by evil spirits as a result of black magic and voodoo and that people wanted to kill the victim.

As a result, the victim was conned into giving Miller large sums of money to buy gold and silver materials such as mirrors and tabernacles to counteract the evil, said Nygaard.  According to the private investigator, Miller defrauded the woman of more than $838,000 over the course of approximately nine years.

Miller advertised herself as a psychic and spiritual healer, said Nygaard.

" 'Peaches T. Miller' claimed to be doing 'God's Work' and she conned the victim into believing that she was the only one who could protect the victim and her family from harm," said Nygaard.

He also said that Miller assured the victim many times that all of her money would be returned but that "Miller never kept her promise."

Nygaard said the case is being investigated by the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office in California.

According to Nygaard, Miller is known to operate her alleged fortune telling business in Florida, California and New York.

It's unclear where Miller's business is located.

But Back to the Gypsy Felon Fortune Teller's Doll

It is, as the title implies, a 1989 BRINN'S October Calendar Clown Halloween Witch doll with dated 1989 tag on its original near mint condition box, that once belonged to a rather notorious Romani woman whose true identity and whereabouts remain unknown.
Shown as found, it does not appear to have been displayed or played with.  No paperwork.

We are often asked, "is it haunted?"

*"I just happened to be here on 09/06/23 and decided to write-up a listing, and again on 09/09 for this photo session.  It is the first time I ever examined the doll.  My first impression was she was an empty vessel that is suited for possession.  I pulled the doll and examined her closely for the photographs.  Other than a lingering light floral aroma there are no signs of possession, damage or repair.  In my humble opinion, these dolls would make an excellent host due to how they were acquired and by whom then being in the possession of Peaches."
