~!~ This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 7 photographs, so please take your time and read the listing through.
Twenty-two and a half years have now passed since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years! The Voodoo Estate! Some Back Story Found on the Main Altar in the Main Ballroom, which was the largest if not the most ornate of all the altars in this estate. It was here in the Main Ballroom that the large ceremonial gatherings took place. There is no inventory or journal mention of this pin that we have been able to cross reference and attribute. This is not unusual as our own attempts at inventory, identification and attributing the items found at this altar has proven to be a monumental task. There were piles of items that had apparently been tossed at altar and left to accumulate over the years. We literally had to shovel them up in some areas to cart them out of there. Most of these items have gone unattributed due to lack of mention in her journals and inventories. We believe the pin was most likely a gift offering, brought by a visiting practitioner that was left at this altar, as indicated by those that we have been able to attribute. The Guest Book to this altar room has thousands of entries which read like a who's who of metaphysical practitioners, dating back to 1910 with a total of 6842 from 1979 to the ninety days following her death. Examination reveals a vintage Taxco sterling silver tree frog pin, as the title implies. It measures approximately 2 1/8" x 1 3/8" x 1/2" and weighs 14.6 grams. The pin is marked 925 on a foot and poorly struck TA-50 on the body. The first letter indicates location. There are few in use and those most commonly seen are: T, M, G and C. In this example the T is for Taxco - others are M for Mexico City, G is for Guadalajara and C, Cuernavaca. The second letter indicates the first initial of the last name of the silversmith and the number indicates the are the 50th silversmith, with the initial A, to register a mark in the Taxco assay office. Unfortunately that is all that can be derived from these marks as there is no list that matches the letters and numbers to silversmith's names that we know of and with less than 15 of the maker's identified it has proven to be difficult to research. ~!~ Tree FrogFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, for the most part...A tree frog is any species of frog that spends a major portion of its lifespan in trees, known as an arboreal state. Several lineages of frogs among the Neobatrachia suborder have given rise to tree frogs, although they are not closely related to each other.Millions of years of convergent evolution have resulted in very similar morphology even in species that are not very closely related. Furthermore, tree frogs in seasonally arid environments have adapted an extra-epidermal layer of lipid and mucus as an evolutionary convergent response to accommodate the periodic dehydration stress. As the name implies, these frogs are typically found in trees or other high-growing vegetation. They do not normally descend to the ground, except to mate and spawn, though some build foam nests on leaves and rarely leave the trees at all as adults, and Eleutherodactylus has evolved direct development and therefore does not need water for a tadpole stage.Tree frogs are usually tiny as their weight has to be carried by the branches and twigs in their habitats. While some reach 4 in or more, they are typically smaller and more slender than terrestrial frogs. Tree frogs typically have well-developed discs at the finger and toe tips, they rely on several attachment mechanisms that vary with circumstances, tree frogs require static and dynamic, adhesive and frictional, reversible and repeatable force generation; the fingers and toes themselves, as well as the limbs, tend to be rather small, resulting in a superior grasping ability. The genus Chiromantis of the Rhacophoridae is most extreme in this respect: it can oppose two fingers to the other two, resulting in a vise-like grip.~!~ It is certainly a nicely aged vintage tree frog pin with an extraordinary provenance that is much nicer than our photographer has been able to depict. ~!~
We have been contacted and visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed. Among the buyers have been known psychics and practitioners. More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated "this is a woman of power!" Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts and other unexplained phenomenon. Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price! This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate. The majority of this estate is now gone. Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again. We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there. The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public. Nice addition to any collection, wardrobe, altar, or decor, displays really well. Really doesn't get any better than this. There are 7 photographs below to tell the rest of this tale and we hope you enjoyed the listing.
